Otter Cove Appeal

The Friends of the Dyken Pond Center has a wonderful opportunity to protect a fantastic piece of land on Dyken Pond but,

 WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW!

The Otter Cove parcel is a critical 23-acre parcel of land on Dyken Pond directly to the north of our canoe launch (or to the left if you are standing on the canoe launch looking at the lake). This parcel is forested land and has never been developed. There is 1100 feet of shoreline on the lake, with the remaining 3 sides surrounded by the existing Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. The Otter Cove parcel creates a buffer between lands of the Center and a proposed housing development.  Acquisition of the Otter Cove parcel by the Friends of the Dyken Pond Center will keep the land in open space, and prevent it from ever being developed.  This will help maintain water quality of the lake, keep this section of the west side of the lake as a beautiful viewshed, as well as open the parcel to public access for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and birding.

You can hike the Otter Cove Trail (keep an eye out for the yellow blazes) that runs alongside this wonderful piece of land.  Plans include expanding the existing Otter Creek Trail to have it loop back along the shoreline as it makes its way back to Cabin 1 and the canoe dock. A beaver lodge and mink dens are visible in Otter Cove, and yes, we have spotted river otters there!

We invite you to support our vision by detaching and returning the donation form below. 100% of your dollars will be used towards land acquisition and will translate into resources evident to every child and adult who visits the Center. Since time is of the essence, please help us meet the challenge today! Thank you!
