After School Programs

Nature Discovery – This program uses award-winning children’s literature as a starting point to discover nature and the connections between ourselves, all living things and planet Earth.  After reading a short story, children will actively explore the topic of the day through hands-on activities, games and crafts.  Emphasis will be on sensory awareness, creative thinking and lots of fun to explore the natural world around us. Children should be prepared to go outside for a portion of the class each week and dress accordingly.  Grades K-3  A more intensive, hands-on version of this program is also offered for grades 4-6, without the literary component.

Nature and Art – Discover nature through observation and creativity. Explore a different topic each week followed by an art project. Grades  K – 6

Amazing Animals -  How do animals communicate?  Why to they behave as they do?  What can they teach us?  Animal tracks and signs, and identification are covered as well as the inter-relationships they have with the rest of their ecosystem. Grades K – 6

Outdoor Learning Skills – As outdoor exploration becomes more popular among young people, the need to educate them on how to stay safe in the woods has become essential.  This skills-building program gives the basics on how to construct a survival shelter, navigation by map and compass, lost-proofing and keeping mental control, finding water, etc.  Grades 5 – 8.
