Summer Camp at Dyken Pond CenterThe Dyken Pond Center serves thousands of students per year in environmental education programs. Many Capital District residents who love the outdoors venture here for hiking, bird watching, wildlife observation, and nature study. The Center offers countless opportunities to explore various natural habitats on more than 500 acres.
The natural world is filled with mystery and beauty. One can spend a lifetime exploring any one of its many secrets. The SUMMER OUTDOOR LEARNING ADVENTURE will kindle interest and spark curiosity about the natural world in which we live. Each one-week session will offer age-appropriate activities in outdoor living skills, ecology, plants and wildlife, and pond study. Each day will be an exciting blend of fun and learning taught through games, crafts, hikes, and hands-on discoveries.
COMPETENT LEADERS
Professional environmental educators and competent staff members enjoy sharing their expertise and enthusiasm with young people. We limit group size to 20 children per week to ensure a safe and optimal experience for participants.
SCHEDULE
All programs run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. A morning snack and drink will be provided. Participants must bring their own lunches. There will be no overnight sessions. Parents will be responsible for transportation to and from the Center on a daily basis. Efforts will be made to coordinate car-pooling.
REGISTRATION AND FEES
Program fee for the one-week session is $175 per participant or $155 for those holding a current FAMILY MEMBERSHIP. Pre-registration for all programs is required. Full payment must be received with registration. Upon receipt of your reservation form and fee, you will receive confirmation of acceptance and information/health forms. Acceptance is on a first-come—first-served basis. Those not accepted will be offered a place on a waiting list. If the registration is cancelled before the program begins, fees will be refunded only if the place can be filled. No refunds will be given after the session begins.

AFTER CARE HOURS
After care hours will be available from 3 until 5 pm for an additional $5 per hour. Please send a note along with the application stating hours needed.
MEMBERSHIP
If you do not have a FAMILY membership of the FRIENDS OF DYKEN POND CENTER, LTD., you may wish to join those who support the Center and receive a discount on the cost of registration
SCHOLARSHIPS
Limited full scholarships are available for those who would be unable to attend otherwise. Scholarships will be awarded based upon financial need and the child’s desire to attend.

Camp Sessions for 2011:

TOUCH THE EARTH—AGES 6 -8
JULY 18 – JULY 22
Discover ways to get a closer look at wild things. Playful activities focus on developing a connection with nature through expanding a sensory awareness of the environment. Creative expression and self-awareness are encouraged while exploring the world with all of the senses.

EXPLORERS—AGES 9 &10
JULY 25 -JULY 29
Investigate nature’s secrets by exploring different habitats. Find out what’s special about the forest, the pond, the bog, and all the other places surrounding you. Hands-on activities let you detect and solve the puzzles
of living plants and animals.
ADVENTURERS—AGES 11 -12
AUGUST 1 - AUGUST 5
Venture into the world of ecological relationships through adventure-based learning. Go on all-day hikes on forested trails, navigate orienteering courses, learn outdoor living skills, practice archery and paddle a canoe or kayak. Examine in more detail the habitats around you.


TEEN EXPEDITIONS – AGES 13 -14
AUGUST 8 THROUGH AUGUST 2
Step it up a notch with our teen expedition camp. Each day, teens will venture out on a different expedition: backpacking, canoeing or kayaking. Teens will develop leadership and team building skills while they practice and sharpen their outdoor living skills.
