2019 Seasonal Positions
Job Position: Seasonal Environmental Educator
Job Description: The Environmental Educator will be responsible for assisting in all aspects of educational programming at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center including but not limited to: preparing lesson plans, written materials, exhibits and the preparation and facilitation of interpretive programs related to environmental science and natural resources. Environmental educator will deliver educational programs to the public, at summer camp and in scheduled groups. Will also assist in day-to-day operation of nature center.
Experience needed: Experience working with children in the outdoors required. Education required: BS in Natural Sciences or Education.
Job Requirements: Must be able to perform physical work in the outdoors, be able to work some weekends and evenings and possess a valid driver’s license.
Job Position: Assistant Director, Outdoor Adventure Camp
Job Description: Assistant Director has on-site responsibility for daily camp operations including basic administrative tasks, teaching environmental education programs to youth ages 6 – 13, and supervising staff. This position is assigned a wide variety of tasks and duties that must be performed to insure the efficient operation of the camp program. Must be enthusiastic, responsible and willing to make summer camp a fantastic experience for our campers.
Experience needed: College degree required in natural history subject area or education. Must be 21 years old and hold a valid NYS drivers license. Experience working with elementary aged children in the outdoors required. Position dates: July 8 – August 16
Job Position: Camp Counselor: Outdoor Adventure Camp
Supervise children at camp, assist in teaching crafts, nature lessons and adventure based activities. One or two years of college preferred. Experience working with kids and some outdoor skills preferred. Must have a positive attitude, demonstrate kindness and compassion to children and be a good role model to campers.Must have transportation to and from the Center. Must be comfortable working in the outdoors, getting dirty and handling icky things. Position dates: July 2- August 10
Internships: Available Spring, Summer and Fall
GENERAL RESPONIBILITIES: Work under the supervision of the Center Director and be involved in all aspects of running an environmental education center.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in all aspects of educational programming including preparing lesson plans, written materials, and exhibits.Deliver educational programs to the public and in scheduled groups on –site as well as off-site.Assist in marketing and promoting programs to the public.
Interns may also opt to work on an environmental research project to be determined by Center and College staff.
Interns may earn up to 15 credits for a full semester or summer session. Call for more information.
