Five Interpretive Signs to be Installed Spring 2013. Each sign depicts a different habitat with associated plants and animals.
The Community Mosaic Art Project was made possible in part through a Community Art$Grant, a program funded by the Arts Center of the Capital Region through the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency. The Friends of the Dyken Pond Center received a grant to fund a mosaic artist, Tamara Shoebridge to work with the community in developing five mosaic tile panels that will be on display at the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center. The finished products are five gorgeous framed 24” x 36” panels, each with a different habitat theme. The themes are: Lake, Pond, Wetland, Forest and Butterfly Garden.
We had 75 youth and 30 adults contribute to the project. Each participant worked on a separate piece of the mosaic puzzle in five public art days. Then, artist Tamara pieced all the individual pieces together into the finished panels. It was great fun to see how your piece ended up in the larger work of art. Participants enjoyed the process, created art and contributed to a community work of art.
Panels will be installed in their respective habitats on the trails in the summer 2012. A map will be on hand at the main entrance sign showing where you can find the panels. Make sure to come out and see our beautiful works of art!
